While on Hold
Roy N. Mason
There are days when the prolonged adversity of everyday life weighs on me.
Competing stimuli craving immediate attention, all imploring they are the
most important of the important crises. My mind wanders in between these
issues seeking freedom from an office chair. Or a shift relief by another
qualified adult. A relief pitcher, a pinch runner, or a baton recipient... I
willingly wish they'd show, and soon. I have art exhibits I'd love to see.
Wander about halls reading curated plaques only after I observe and make
my own interpretation. Stacks of books containing hidden messages also call.
I'm sure one of which will unlock a secret, or at least reaffirm a known truth
ensuring me I'm on the right path. Also, the endless supply of recorded music
I have to devour, transporting me elsewhere. A place free of care or worldly
concerns. Or sit back with properly warmed Earl Grey held between hands
peering escaping steam, in a daydream. I've lost track of my remaining wishes.
Striving to make each day count, Roy N. Mason documents his experiences, observations and lessons-learned in personal essays and poetry.
